Episode 13 is Live!

Episode 14 is live and you can read it here: The Forester 13

The community on Twitch politely poked me, wondering when I’d post any new episodes. I stream my comic process on Twitch and I finished a bunch of work that they really wanted to see posted. So. Here ya go! I’ll be posting the completed episodes every month and you can read the pages as they get finished on my Discord! We would love to have ya!

I started a Twitch channel!

I started a Twitch channel! Strathmore, a fursona, is looking to the top left with a determined expression.

Weh! I started a Twitch channel! I started a YouTube channel for shorts! I’m building up a community now! A lot happened since last time I wrote. I am pumped and so very hyped to continue making The Forester and build on future projects. If you want to interact with me directly, come to my Twitch and chat with me and the other battlebuns! I started a Twitch channel to keep myself accountable to you.

Progress on The Forester

I’m diligently working on updates for The Forester. It’s an art stream every Wednesday and Friday at 8:30AM EDT on the Twitch channel. I tend to hyperfocus when I’m working on the art, but if you start chatting I will start talking. I love interacting with everyone there! If chatting with me isn’t your jam, then feel free to lurk.

Along with the artwork I do on my comic, you have the option of commissioning me. The link is found here: https://flyingweaselart.carrd.co

What to Expect on Twitch

As stated above, I stream art. I stream games on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays at 12:30PM EDT. The VODs of the streams are on my YouTube channel if you wanted to see how they typically go down. I’ve streamed for three months now and I’m still figuring things out. The old VODs might feel janky from me experimenting with the microphone settings as well as my stream overlays getting updates over time.

I stream Final Fantasy games and, in the future, Kingdom Hearts. My goal is to help you consume art and media better. I enjoy stories more when I know how it’s made and see the hand of the author in the story. It also helps me be a better writer. The streams feature live story analysis as I play along and I point out when major story beats happen and identify the major themes so that you know why a story is objectively good.

If that doesn’t suit your fancy, you can jump in the stream to make me cringe! Haha!

Looking Ahead

I expect to finish the final pages of The Forester by the end of this year. I will post the new episodes at that point. However, I may post the pages here early and release them at the beginning of each month. I don’t plan on an aggressive weekly update schedule for now.

After The Forester is done, then it’s on to my next project! It’s go the working title of “My Demon Lord Story” so far. Very professional, I know. Once I get a pitch bible put together, I start querying agents to get a book deal! I’m pumped for that as well!

I’ll keep you posted!

I’m not down in the dumps or anything.

It’s a period of high energy right now. There’s a few things in my life that changed how I view myself. All of it’s positive! Don’t worry, I’m not down in the dumps or anything.

Healthy Gamer Coaching

Not sure how familiar you are with Healthy Gamer GG. Dr. K. is a psychologist who specializes in things like video game and pornography addiction. He noticed that there wasn’t any serious study into the mental health of gamers, so he founded Healthy Gamer.

I used the coaching program because I felt low motivation. They offer six months of coaching and I came out of that with a better understanding of how to work with my brain to achieve my goals. The way I did it was only giving me marginal improvements. Then I did the coaching and I made significant progress in understanding myself. Yet, it wasn’t the largest thing to improve my mental health tools.

Why Some Men Never Grow Up

A few weeks ago, Dr. K. did a livestream on “Why Some Men Never Grow Up.” The title didn’t feel relevant to me at first, but as I watched, I felt like one member who said they were “slapped awake.” I wish that I could give it justice here. My mind is enamored with fantasies of being a comic artist that when reality arrived and I needed to work, I flinched and stopped. It’s where my low motivation was stemming.

My mind searches for reasons to keep me from acting when things are difficult and so I am committing to sticking it out when things get tough. I mean, simple enough, right? It seems like common knowledge, right? It’s how you take low motivation, right? It’s not that simple and there’s far more nuance to it than I shared here. So I encourage you to watch Dr. K’s livestreams on Puer Aeternus.

Future Action

My inner child will be my ally to get shit done. I treated it the wrong way before, and I did what I felt like instead of what I intended. So yeah, I’m not down in the dumps or anything. Already, I feel much more capable of doing what I want. Here’s to the future of being intentional!

Script Done! Now I’m Drawing the Comic

The script and story for The Forester is pretty much in its final form. Now I’m finally producing more pages!

Rabbit furry. Strathmore, the fursona of AJ Larson. He is giving a cartoonishly stupid smile at the viewer, like he's trying to be way too nice to get something from you. The character is on a blue background with a screen tone gradient. He is excited to tell you the script is done.

A lotta people asked me why Ardyn and Kyra wanna kill each other. Up to that point, I realized I didn’t know why. When I read the script again, I decided that I needed to make it obvious to the audience why Ardyn is so emotional from the get go. That lead me down my own rabbit hole of brainstorming. It involved questions about what they were like as kids, what their parents meant to them, and the events that lead up to their separation.

It was worth it! I gotta say that the story is far more emotional than it was before. It was lacking that oomph it needed to take it over the edge. But then some complications happened and I had to rewrite a bunch of the ending. I had to rethink what the central themes of the story were. I started writing this story because I was really tired of other works bringing dead characters back to life because they were popular. At the time, I was thinking about Dragon Ball Super. It brought characters back to life all the time and they had brought Frieza back for the Tournament of Power arc. Yeah, eventually I warmed up to the decision, but I felt that it was cheap at the time.

Now the story has evolved into one that briefly explores how we all should find the right motivation to do what’s important. It’s a more compelling theme than “dead characters need to stay dead” I think. Haha!

Anyway, I’m really happy that production is in full swing! Here’s the comic’s thumbnails for the next episode. Subscribe to my newsletter to get updates as they happen. You can also follow me on Bluesky.

Been Awhile

I’m resuming full production of The Forester! Yay!

Procrastination’s a bitch innit? I had several failed goals seriously take the wind out of my sails last year. Extended periods of unemployment, rejections, and low-self esteem. Thankfully, I have really supportive friends and family to keep me going. That, and the thought of having more friends come into my life who discovered me through my artwork. I’m a sensitive person and forming connections with people is something I crave. That is, if I can get outta my head and talk to people. Haha!

I’m just a little guy, people!

Happy to say that I’ve made a roadmap for the next year. My big, big goal is to have a pitch bible on a new project ready for finding a literary agent. When I have a pitch and The Forester completed, I will have a compelling case for potential agents to represent me. I will also post more regularly here as a journal to log my progress and hopefully give y’all some inspiration in your own creative works. But yeah, I’m resuming full production of The Forester!

I was reading through the comic and found some things that I’m gonna add to the original script. There’s been a lot of helpful feedback from people around me on what they wanna see in the story. That and I’m always seeing ways I wanna improve. Art, paneling, lettering, pacing. Ya know, all of the everything! It was daunting for me to tackle this project again, but with some planning and breaking down the project into some smaller steps, I feel ready to dive into the deep end again.

Hiatus Announcement

Hello again! I learned a lot this month about making comics and my own limits. I’ve been releasing episodes of The Forester the same week that I complete them instead of having a buffer of several episodes like a sane person would. That was really hectic! haha!

The application season for Spider Forest is also over and my application was denied for a couple of good reasons. The first was my comic didn’t have a complete first chapter. In other words, there isn’t enough of the comic finished to let them have a clear idea of where it’s going. The second reason was my update schedule is too inconsistent currently.

I was SUPER eager to launch this thing when I had a few episodes ready and I thought that it was going to be fewer episodes than it’s on track for.

So, anyway, I want to take a hiatus from releases so that I can get a buffer built up.

I know! Unfortunately for you, it means you’ll have to wait for more of the comic. But don’t worry! I’ll keep you posted on art I complete as well as WIPs occasionally. This is a good thing! The Forester will increase in quality an I’ll increase in sanity! haha!

At this moment, I don’t know when regular comic updates will start up again. I’ll need to get a feel, again, on how quickly I can plan and draw these out.

Until then!

Next Episode Will be On 8/10

I’ll be visiting my Mom for her birthday this week. So the next update will be next Saturday. I was gonna try hard to get you a short episode so that you have something to consume, but I ended up getting sick too! Kind of a bummer, but your regularly scheduled Forester episode will be on August 10th!

Thanks for reading! I’m happy that you are enjoying my work!

Episode 11 Will Release Tomorrow

Hello everyone! I promise that episode 11 is still coming out this week, it’s just happening tomorrow.

I had a severe case of burnout this week because I was trying to do both the comic AND Art Fight at the same time. I gave myself an unrealistic goal which caused me to have a mountainous workload. When you’ve got ADHD, you tend to have an all-or-nothing mindset. And I was giving myself much more stress than is needed by trying too hard to do too much.

I’ve taken measures to make burnout less of a thing by visualizing the work I need to do in the form of a whiteboard. I dedicated each day of the week to a specific task and I’ll only do that task each day. If I draw more, then it’s because I wanted to do that for fun, instead of thinking of it as work.

Comics are hard, people! haha!

For today, enjoy a WIP sketch from this weeks episode.
